Working a chimney or a fireplace is quite dangerous and that is why, it is extremely important to observe proper safety measure while dealing with them. Although the open fire of a fireplace provides comfort to the household, most of us forget that it also poses a lot of danger to our children and the entire home interior.

While working with a fireplace and a chimney, make sure that the chimney is not capped, blocked off or shortened. A non-functioning chimney will not take smoke away from the fire and in extreme cases, may also cause chimney fire that can be disastrous for the home. Make sure that your fireplace has a proper basket for fuel so that it does not spill out on the hearth.

If there are small children or elderly people in your house, then investing in a fireguard is a wise thing to do. Always make use of the right tools to stoke the fire or to add new fuel so that you do not end up burning yourself.
